u may have a block that’s,good for a stroker,my self i would want a 4 bolt main block,or a 2 bolt with aftermarket splayed main cap’s,,,the 30 over bore u have on ur block may not be a good thing,,,whenu send a block to a good machine shop,u send the complete set of piston’s with it..each bore is fitted to each piston,because piston’s from the same manufacturer,can vary,a small amount,so if that block was run at 30 over,and wore,u might may have to bump up to the next oversize,ur crankshaft makes ur stroker,nothing to do at all with ur heads,but still ur not going to go puttin some low performance heads on a nice stroked shortblock.ur gonna need some notches in the bottom of each cylinder,for ur long arm crank,and rods to clear,i would’nt buy a stroker kit unless it was balanced,u might end up having that block,bored to 60 over,and if my memoty is rite ur cubic inch becomes 388.ive had 30 over motor’s,bored to 40 over,but they were stock stroke 350’s,becoming 356ci. dont no if u can get a 40 over stroker kit balanced and ready to go,,,without it being custom,,,,,,as more money,,first thing to do is have a shop check ur block out before u buy any intenal part’s…..hope this help’s
With all those mods it could be anything and the high-performance clutch would be way down on my list of suspected culprits. Thrust bearing wouldn’t be too high on that list either. Can you be more specific about what “quit working” means?You need to have someone really experienced look it over first. I would be surprised if it doesn’t have a major problem in the engine that could cost many thousands of dollars to fix.
If the heads are done by somebody that knows what the hell they are doing, you are better off with your HO heads. From a performance standpoint. Tests have shown nearly stock Vortec heads to outflow Edelbrocks high dollar stuff. But on the other hand, a set of aluminum heads on anything raises the “bitchin” factor through the roof!

Looks like you answered your own argument.Stay with the 550 unit and look to a better ride plate and intake grill if needed or not already fitted. The output from a 440 unit will require an extreme impellor pitch to absorb the additional output of your engine so again the 550 unit is probably better – and it’s already fitted so that saves some time as well:)Good luck.
